Both the lecture and the seminar for theme
two were very interesting for me. For starter I learn that Benjamin and
Horkheimer didn’t share view on the potential in culture. Benjamin stated that
culture could be as powerful as to change the society whilst Horkhemier’s point
of view was almost the opposite, saying that culture only reflects what is and
as such unable to change what to come. Both gentlemen agreed on the limited
room for visions within Nominalism. This makes Nominalism unfit if you want to
work with the future. Also some light shed upon the word aura for me. It became
clear that Benjamin saw aura as something a natural object posses and what
makes it one-of-a-kind object. Art objects can also hold aura but by replicate
the original you destroy the aura until it is nothing left. Which from
Benjamin’s point of view is a good thing.
I had a hard time read up before this
theme’s lecture and deadline for the draft on Friday. Especially Horkheimer’s
text wasn’t as accessible as Benjamin’s text. I felt that the lecture and
seminar gave me insight in the matter much better than I probably could have obtained
by my own.
hi,
SvaraRaderait is interesting that Benjamin sees that aura will be totally destroy by the reproduction but yes he see it as a good thing. he's willing to give that up if it will bring art down to mass.
i love how clear and concise your reflection blog is.
nice job :)
Hi,I agree with your opinion for the "aura" you claim. To some extents, we always are influenced by mass medias .It can not be avoided to addict in the circle that was made by the reproduction or synthesized stuff. We could filter these before we accept them for building the more authentic culture. But we must admit that it should be the generation of the public requirement. It actually become the product for public consumption. Thanks for sharing.
SvaraRaderaHi, i agree with you that both seminar and lecture was very good and like you I had problem with separate Benjamins view from Horkhemier’s and Adorno but it seems to me that you now understand it and the connection to nominalism, which i thought was quite interesting. I think your text for the theme was easy to follow and i like that you manage to reflect in quite a lot without writing a long text.
